The aim of the focus action was to test honeys from third countries offered on the Austrian market with regard to pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PA) as well as authenticity and composition in accordance with the Honey Ordinance. Furthermore, the contamination of honeys on the domestic market with glyphosate was also examined. 54 samples from all over Austria were examined.
Nine samples were rejected (in some cases several times):
- In four samples, adulteration could be detected, i.e. the respective samples did not consist exclusively of honey in accordance with the Honey Ordinance.
- In one sample, the maximum value for the hydroxymethylfurfurol content (HMF) was exceeded.
- Five samples were rejected due to labeling deficiencies (in part additionally).
