This focal action served to verify the implementation of general and specific hygiene requirements and to verify self-monitoring in approved high-risk establishments (= establishments handling and processing food of animal origin).
267 food samples from all over Austria were examined. 11 food samples were rejected in total:
- for milk, six of the 167 food samples were rejected (two samples due to Escherichia coli, one sample due to coliform bacteria, three samples due to labeling)
- for meat, two out of 69 food samples (one sample because of Escherichia coli, one sample because of a misleading indication about the shelf life of the product)
- for fish, three out of 31 food samples (one for coagulase-positive staphylococci, one for Listeria monocytogenes, one for misleading shelf-life claims).
