The aim of the focus action "Nanomaterials in cosmetic products" was to review documents of cosmetic products with regard to the indication of nanomaterials. Documents for 13 products from all over Austria were examined. Five products were objected to, based on the information in the documents:

• for three products, the safety report could not be submitted to the competent authority
• two products contained non-permitted dyes in nano form.

The European Commission has published a catalog listing nanomate-rials used in cosmetics. This catalog is based on the notifications of the distributors. During the evaluation of these notifications, it was found that some unauthorized substances were reported or that questionable notifications were also made. Within the framework of this priority action, these notifications of Austrian companies were reviewed.
