The aim of the focus action was to check the release of metal components (metal permeability) from uncoated pots, pans and other metal tableware to food. 52 samples from all over Austria were examined.
- one sample (gravy boat) was found to be harmful to health due to a high level of lead release
- one sample (tray) was rejected due to an increased release of nickel, aluminum and lead
- six samples were found to have labeling deficiencies
The basis for the investigation and evaluation was the current Council of Europe guideline "Metals and alloys used in food contact materials and articles" (2013). The aim was to determine whether the commercially available products meet these requirements. In addition, data on the specific problem of aluminum consumption due to the use of uncoated aluminum tableware were to be determined.
