The primary purpose of this focus action was to collect data regarding the contamination of cosmetic oils with process contaminants (3- and 2-monochloropropanediol, glycidyl fatty acid esters). 30 samples from all over Austria were examined.
- Four samples were objected due to missing notification or labeling deficiencies.
Free MCPD (3- and 2-monochloropropanediol) and its esters as well as glycidyl fatty acid esters are repeatedly detected in cosmetic products. These substances are so-called "process contaminants", as they are formed primarily during the production of vegetable fats and oils.
