The aim of the focus action was to determine compliance with the requirements for cosmetic products in distribution channels other than wholesale. 27 samples from all over Austria were examined. 15 samples were objected to (in some cases several times):
- A massage lotion was classified as harmful to health due to its content of methyl salicylate and was withdrawn from the market.
- A hair dye advertised as a henna product also contained chemical dyes known to cause allergies and too little coupler substance.
- One ointment was classified as a presentation drug. That is, the product advertised curative effects ("inhibits inflammation"). A procedure was initiated by the Medicines Agency.
- Labelling deficiencies were found in 13 samples.
- In eight samples, the notification was missing.
- Four samples were found to be misleading due to an advertising statement.
- In four cases, the legally required labeling in German was missing.
