The aim of the focus action "Ingredients and efficacy of chemical callus removers" was to check whether the legal requirements for potassium hydroxide, a substance used for callus removal, are complied with. Thirty samples from all over Austria were examined.
- No sample had to be objected to because of the active substances used for corneal removal.
Potassium hydroxide is used to soften or remove calluses. A concentration of up to 1.5% is considered safe. However, cosmetic products for cornea removal containing potassium hydroxide must be labeled with warnings.
