The aim of the priority action was to obtain an overview of the composition and contamination of cereal-based foods, biscuits and rusks with contaminants such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), mycotoxins, pesticides and heavy metals. In addition, the national use situation of additives and flavourings in the samples taken and the microbiological status were to be determined.
52 samples from all over Austria were analysed. Eleven samples were rejected (in some cases several times):
- Two samples due to composition
- Ten samples due to labelling deficiencies
- Two samples due to unauthorised nutrition and health claims
