The aim of the priority action was to monitor compliance with maximum levels of pesticide residues in or on food of plant and animal origin. The data from this EU-wide monitoring program form the basis for recommendations regarding future measures to monitor pesticide residues at the European level.

141 samples from all over Austria were examined. Five samples were objected to:

• in one sample each of tomatoes (chlorfenapyr - insecticide/acaricide) and lettuce (kresoxim-methyl - fungicide) the maximum residue levels were exceeded
• in two samples of baby food the maximum residue level for fosetyl (sum of fosetyl-Al and phosphonic acid) was exceeded as a result of detected residues of phosphonic acid
• one sample of lettuce from organic farming was objected to for being misleading because significantly increased residues of inorganic bromide were detected.
