The aim of the priority action was to check whether the products on the market comply with the legally stipulated maximum content.
Twelve samples from all over Austria were analysed. Four samples were rejected:
- The maximum level for erucic acid was exceeded in all samples
Erucic acid is a natural component of rapeseed and mustard seeds. High levels in food can be harmful to health. Therefore, a maximum level of 50 g/kg was set for erucic acid in mustard oils.
