The aim of the focus action was to ascertain how micro-manufacturers ensure that safe cosmetic products are made available on the market and in which areas deficiencies occur and there is still a need for information or support. In addition to the sampling, a questionnaire was used to determine where the greatest problems lie from the manufacturers' point of view and where improvements are desired. 24 samples from 22 cosmetics manufacturers from all over Austria were examined.
In the case of 13 samples, a suspected violation of the relevant regulations within the meaning of § 37 LMSVG was reported to the food supervisory authority:
- for three samples no product information file including the safety assessment was available, for all other 21 samples at least documentation (such as PGD, safety assessment or safety report) could be provided
- for three samples the safety report was deficient
- for six cosmetic products the notification in the CPNP database was missing
- labeling deficiencies were found in six products
- in two samples the advertising claims were deficient
- in one product preservatives were used which are not authorized for cosmetic products
- the microbiological safety of one product could not be sufficiently proven.
