The aim of the focus action was to obtain an up-to-date overview of the contamination with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), heavy metals, mycotoxins (ochratoxin A, aflatoxins and citrinin), aluminum and acrylamide of cocoa powder offered on the Austrian market and cocoa bean pieces (so-called cocoa nibs) on the market. In the case of cocoa powder, a check was to be carried out in particular on compliance with the legally specified maximum levels for PAH and cadmium .
30 samples from all over Austria were examined.
