Since 2007, the acrylamide content in food has been monitored in Austria. The summarized results are presented in this paper and compared with data from other EU countries. 8% of the samples were above the guideline or signal values published at the time of sampling, especially in potato chips and roasted coffee. Acrylamide was found in all 75 potato chips tested and in 93% of the samples in the "coffee and coffee substitutes" category. The product categories "Pre-fried French fries" and "Baby food for infants and young children (except cereal-based)" showed a statistically significant decrease in acrylamide levels from 2007 to 2015. Soft bread" and "Cereal-based complementary foods for infants and young children" showed a downward trend, whereas "Ready-to-eat French fries" showed a slight upward trend. Foods specially produced for infants and young children showed very low acrylamide levels. In particular, there seems to be potential for acrylamide content reduction in potato chips from the food service industry. The high contents in roasted coffee, instant coffee and substitute coffee correspond to the situation found in other EU countries.
