The aim is to raise awareness of food safety and educate consumers on how to make informed decisions about their food.
Food is safer today than ever before. This is shown by the annually published food safety report with only 0.5% harmful sample assessments. Food safety in Austria is ensured by high quality standards and controls that start with food producers and end with EU-wide monitoring programmes.
As AGES, we are the first point of contact for food safety in Austria and are participating in the campaign for the fourth time this year. "As the One Health organisation in Austria, we play an important role in maintaining the health of people, animals and plants. Of course, this also includes food safety. As a result, we often recognise problems before they reach consumers, such as zoonotic pathogens in animals or mycotoxins in plant-based foods. However, consumers can also do their part to ensure that their food remains safe. Observing general kitchen hygiene rules at home plays an important role in preventing foodborne infections," says Johannes Pleiner-Duxneuner, Managing Director of AGES.
