The Multiannual National Control Plan

Consumers in Austria can rest assured that their food is safe. Our high standards are based on an official control system that ensures that the health of humans, animals and plants is protected along the entire food chain and that fair competition is maintained.

The Multi-annual National Control Plan (MNKP) is a cornerstone for transparent and quality official control. It is the basis for concrete control plans, control and monitoring programs, and priority actions. It is drawn up for a period of three years and covers official food controls, feed controls, GMO-free controls, animal health monitoring, animal welfare controls, plant health monitoring, plant protection product controls, organic controls and quality declaration controls.

Beyond health protection, the MNKP makes a significant contribution to the competitiveness of the Austrian economy and to the transparency of official activities along the food chain.

Comprehensive consumer protection can only be achieved if all competent authorities work hand in hand, which is the mission that the MNKP - which is subject to the continuous improvement process - implements. For this reason, the Federal Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection, in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Regions and Water Management, coordinates the Multiannual National Control Plan. This represents the common approach and the common goals.

Here you have the opportunity to learn more about the structures, objectives and procedures of the control authorities, as well as to read the results of the controls carried out, which appear in the MNKP Annual Report.
