The aim of the focus action was to obtain an up-to-date overview of the composition of honeys from the EU and third countries on the Austrian market. Furthermore, the contamination with regard to veterinary drugs and pesticides and the contamination by pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PA) were to be determined.

43 samples from all over Austria were examined. Five samples were rejected:

• One sample was unsuitable for human consumption/intended use due to the detection of a veterinary drug not permitted in honey
• Four samples due to incorrect labeling
