The objective of the priority action "Environmental contaminants in food - monitoring" was the random sampling of the presence of dioxins, PCBs and chlorine pesticides in foodstuffs from the vicinity of industrial plants, waste (co-)incineration plants and mass waste landfills.

Member States of the EU are to monitor the presence of dioxins, dioxin-like PCBs and non-dioxin-like PCBs by random sampling. The focal action is a continuous monitoring, which is extended by the examination for chlorine pesticides. Sampling is targeted in the vicinity of industrial plants, waste (co-)incineration plants and bulk waste landfills.
