This focal action served to verify the implementation of general and specific hygiene requirements and to verify self-monitoring in approved high-risk establishments (= establishments handling and processing food of animal origin).
301 food samples from all over Austria were examined. Six food samples were rejected in total:
- in milk, five of the 198 food samples were objected to (one sample due to Escherichia coli, one sample due to coagulase-positive staphylococci, one sample due to its texture and histamine content, two samples due to a statement about the shelf life of the product that was suitable to mislead)
- in case of fish, one of the 36 food samples (because of Listeria monocytogenes)
