The aim of the focus action was to check the quality of drinking water in public buildings (nursing homes) with regard to compliance with the applicable food regulations.

253 samples from all over Austria were examined.

• Three samples were rejected due to contamination with enterococci.

The purpose of the focus action was to determine whether compliance with the applicable food law regulations for drinking water is ensured. The scope of testing was expanded to include the germ Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which is not usually tested in net samples. The detection of enterococci indicates with high probability a fecal contamination, therefore there is also the possibility that the water is contaminated with pathogenic microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, parasites).
