The aim of the focus action was to check the use of colorants and preservatives in caviar substitutes and surimi products in compliance with the law, as well as to check the labeling for freedom from deception.
35 samples from all over Austria were examined. One sample was rejected:
- A surimi product contained too much benzoic and sorbic acid and therefore contradicted the Ordinance on Food Additives; in addition, this sample also had labeling deficiencies.
