The objective of the focus action was to test milk-based infant formula and follow-on formula for contaminants such as quaternary ammonium compounds, heavy metals, fatty acid esters, mycotoxins, erucic acid, chlorate and perchlorate, acrylamide, radioactivity contamination, and microbiological status.

72 samples from all over Austria were examined.

Young children represent a sensitive consumer group that is particularly worthy of protection. Although focus actions with similar objectives have delivered satisfactory results in the past years, focus actions with changing scope of analysis are carried out on an ongoing basis in order to meet this special need for protection.
