Phthalates are plasticizers, most of which enter cosmetic products as impurities via packaging or also during production/filling, or they are used as denaturants for ethanol or as additives to perfumes. Some phthalates are banned in cosmetic products and some are unregulated.
37 samples (24 oils and 13 nail adhesives) from all over Austria were tested. Six samples were objected to:
- Six samples were objected to due to labeling and advertising claims or lack of notification.
- Phthalates could not be detected in any sample.
