The aim of the focus action was the examination of food supplements with the claims "Superfood", "Detox" and similar claims.
61 samples from Austria were examined, 24 samples were objected to:
- One sample on was unsuitable for human consumption.
- Labeling violations were the main reasons for complaints.
The term "superfood" is usually used to describe exotic foods that are supposed to have a particularly high nutrient content or additional health benefits. Theses of "purification" and "detoxification" in food supplements do not stand up to scientific scrutiny according to the current state of research.
