The aim of the focus action was to check cosmetic products imported from third countries for compliance with legal requirements. In particular, products advertised as "Black Henna" for skin painting were checked. 34 samples from all over Austria were examined. 25 samples were objected to:

• Three samples were judged to be harmful to health, two of which were hair dyes because of the use of PPD without a corresponding coupler compound and one product for skin painting because of the use of phenol - a corrosive compound.

Products for skin painting often contain harmful substances such as p-phenylenediamines (PPD), which without an appropriate coupler compound lead to the formation of the harmful compound Bandrowskibase.
