The aim of the focus action was to obtain an up-to-date overview of the contamination of cocoa and cocoa products offered on the Austrian market with regard to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), mycotoxins (aflatoxin, ochratoxin A and citrinin), cadmium and aluminum. 55 samples from all over Austria were examined. One sample was rejected:
- one sample of drinking chocolate powder exceeded the maximum levels for benzo(a)pyrene and sum of benzo(a)pyrene, benz(a)anthracene, benzo(b)fluoranthene and chrysene; the sample was judged to be harmful to health.
