The aim of the focus campaign was to determine the possible contamination of drinking water with selected metals/heavy metals throughout Austria. The main focus was on the quality of the water immediately after extraction. Possible negative influences from the taps, pipes or stagnation of the water in the pipe were not to be analysed.

207 samples from all over Austria were analysed. Of these, six samples were rejected:

• The parameter value for nickel was exceeded in three samples
• The parameter value for arsenic was exceeded in two samples
• The parameter value for lead was exceeded in one sample
