The aim of the priority action "Genetically modified food - maize and maize products" was to check whether genetically modified food made from or containing maize was present on the Austrian market. Fifty-three samples from all over Austria were examined:

The cultivation of genetically modified maize and the placing on the market of foods derived from it are only possible in the EU on the basis of an authorization. For non-approved genetically modified organisms, zero tolerance applies throughout the EU. The use of approved GMOs in food production must be declared. The focus action therefore also examined the labeling of corn and corn products.
