The aim of the focus action was to check whether the food colorants used comply with the legal requirements and whether the mandatory warning notice is indicated when certain colorants ("azo colorants") are used. 81 colored fine bakery products, confectionery, decorations and ornaments from all over Austria were checked with regard to the use of food colorants and the labeling. 16 samples were objected to:

• In four samples, the use of food colorants did not comply with food law regulations
• In eleven samples, the obligatory warning regarding azo dyes was missing.
• In six samples, deficiencies were found with regard to the labeling of the goods in accordance with the Food Information Regulation
