The aim of the focus action was to check the cleanliness of spirits on the basis of fermentation by-products and to verify the declaration of alcohol. 87 samples from all over Austria were examined, 48 samples were rejected (in some cases several times):
- In 46% of the samples, the declared alcohol content was not correct.
- Nine percent of the samples were unsuitable for human consumption/intended use due to inadequate hygienic fermentation.
- Labeling deficiencies were found in 56% of the samples.
