Webinar: What are novel foods?

Date

13:00 to 17:00

Location

Online via Zoom

Due to new food trends, dishes from distant countries, new lifestyles, but also sustainability issues ("food waste", new protein sources), there is an increasing trend towards foods that are novel to Europe.

This interactive presentation will provide you with the basics of the Novel Food Regulation and explain the authorisation procedures. The legal framework will be underpinned with a number of practical examples. This should equip you to carry out your own research into novel food status so that food can be marketed legally.

Contents

  • What are novel foods?
  • Determining the novel food status
  • Authorisation of a novel food
  • Notification of a traditional food from a third country
  • Current applications and many examples, including from the Union list

You are also welcome to submit your topic-related questions in advance to akademie@ages.at. The questions collected will be answered by the lecturers during the course.
