Sustainable Food Systems - Pathways to sustainable food and nutrition systems

Date

09:30 to 17:00

Location

AGES Wien 22

The European food and nutrition system is facing major challenges, such as its significant contribution to global greenhouse gas emissions, the loss of biodiversity, the depletion and waste of resources as well as undernutrition, overnutrition and malnutrition. It is necessary to take joint steps towards a sustainable food and nutrition system - sustainable from an ecological, economic, social and health perspective. In such a complex system, there are different perspectives on various challenges and equally diverse approaches to overcoming them. The path to a "sustainable food system" can only be travelled in an interdisciplinary, cross-sectoral and systemic manner.

In Austria, important steps are being taken towards a systemic, holistic view of the food and nutrition system. This is reflected in the ongoing cooperation between the Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK), the Federal Ministry ofThis reflects the ongoing cooperation between the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK), the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Regions and Water Management (BML), the Federal Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection (BMSGPK) and the Service Centre for Sustainable Food and Nutrition Systems (AGES) commissioned by these ministries.

Following the successful kick-off event in November 2023, the Service Agency for Sustainable Food and Nutrition Systems, together with the three ministries, invites you to continue the "Sustainable Food Systems" event series on 4 December 2024. In this series, we want to take a holistic look at the food system, including its governance and resilience. We would like to give you an understanding of our view of the Austrian food and nutrition system and show you the next steps towards an upcoming in-depth look at individual topics. In subsequent meetings, we will focus on the identified topics of "Sustainable and healthy nutrition for all", "Consideration of planetary boundaries" and "Creation of fair economic framework conditions".
