The aim of this focus action was to check dried herbs for treatment with ionizing radiation. 30 samples from all over Austria were examined. No sample was objected to. Irradiation with ionizing radiation to preserve food is only permitted in Austria for dried aromatic herbs and spices. These products must be labeled "irradiated" or "treated with ionizing radiation".
