In the context of this focal point, compliance with the legal requirements for plasticizers that transfer from plastic cling films and release films into fatty foods was to be checked. Thirty samples from all over Austria were examined. No sample was objected to because of plasticizers. Seven samples were objected to because of the absence of the legally required declarations of conformity or the lack of essential information. Plasticizers are used as additives in plastics (especially in PVC) to make them more elastic and flexible. Due to the good fat solubility of many plasticizers, there is a risk of conta-mination of food on direct contact. The use of plasticizers is subject to numerous application restrictions.
