The aim of the focus action was to obtain an overview of the safety of plush toys with sewn-on small parts placed on the market in Austria. In particular, the physical and mechanical properties, flammability as well as saliva and perspiration resistance were tested.

37 samples from all over Austria were examined. 18 samples were rejected (in some cases several times):

• Six samples because of detachable small parts that could pose a choking risk.
• Five samples were found to have labeling deficiencies
• 17 samples were rejected because of a missing or defective EC declaration of conformity.
