Final report of the priority action A-023-23

The aim of the focus campaign was to determine the extent to which blue gin, which is often coloured with extracts from the dried flowers of Clitoria ternatea L., can be found on the Austrian market.

19 samples from all over Austria were tested for unauthorised novel food ingredients. Seven samples were rejected:

  • five samples due to blue flower extract of Clitoria ternatea L.
  • two samples due to blue gardenia extract from the flower Gardenia jasminoides Ellis, which is also to be assessed as an unauthorised novel food ingredient
