The focus action examined which food additives are used in flavors and flavor preparations and whether they are used and labeled correctly. 22 surveys were carried out, four samples were objected to:
- In two samples, the legally permitted combined maximum level of the preservatives potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate was exceeded
- Two samples were incorrectly labeled
Flavors and flavoring preparations are used in and on foods to give them a special odor and/or taste or to modify them. Flavors may contain carriers, additives and other food ingredients in addition to the flavoring components.
